vw is the maker of the sls amg, a german automobile company. it was founded in 1947 by the german chancellor, herbert hoover. originally known for being one of europe's largest manufacturing companies after world war ii, it is now primarily associated with its automotive products – which include luxury cars and commercial vehicles. despite political interference in 1998 to push vw towards an alliance (initially) with daimler-benz and (later) bmw, vw remains part of a large co-operative group consisting primarily of family investors who determine policy through close coordination between themselves and board members
